Architectural Design and Architectural History
The symposium will consider relationships between architectural history and architectural design,and
particularly the creative and imaginative aspects of them. It aims to bring architects into a dialogue
with architectural historians,to the benefit of both disciplines.
In the morning,papers will be presented by architectural historians.In the afternoon,we shall hear
from contemporary architects who have been chosen because they are still in conversation with
historians. In each case the papers will be followed by discussion, drawing the audience into a
conversation which will continue throughout the day.
The speakers will include Robert Adam,Pierre d’Avoine,Jan Birksted,Wayde Brown,Ted Cullinan,
Franca Malversi,Elizabeth McKellor and John Outram.
Tickets are priced at £40 (students £15) to include coffee,lunch and drinks at the end of the day to
celebrate the Society’s 50th Anniversary.Applications, accompanied by a cheque made payable to
