What is the European Architectural History Network (EAHN)?

The European Architectural History Network is the first step in the creation of a European Society for Architectural History that will support research and education by providing a public forum for the dissemination of knowledge on the history of architecture in Europe and among scholars of European architecture.

The need for a network in the field of architectural history has long been felt among European scholars and those working on European architecture. The idea of creating such a network has been discussed by a group of scholars at the Society of Architectural Historians 2005 meeting in Vancouver and the INHA/SAH International Conference in Paris. Since then, an informal committee was formed, and it has initiated the European Architectural History Network (EAHN) by creating a mailing list and the current website. With the goal of developing by-laws for establishing the European Architectural History Network as a permanent organization, the committee has also established a temporary association, "Association de préfiguration du réseau européen d'histoire de l'architecture", that will organize the discussion and vote of the members, and weld a brainstorming meeting in January 14-15, 2006 in Berlin.

During the 59th Annual Meeting of the Society of Architectural Historians at Savannah, we could present the EAHN to colleagues attending the meeting who where very interested and suggested some interesting improvements. Please read the minutes here.

We welcome your interest in the EAHN project and encourage you to join the mailing list and contribute to the website with your ideas and suggestions.

THE FIRST EAHN STUDY TOUR TO LJUBLJANA TOOK PLACE FROM JULY 7-9, 2006!

One of EAHN's goals involves organizing study tours, which not only allow us to become familiar with architecture in various cities, but also to meet local architectural faculty.

EAHN's inaugural tour, organized by Eastern architecture specialist Carmen Popescu, took place from July 7 to 9, 2006 [see the program and the report.] Our Slovenian colleagues showed us the highlights of Ljubljana and its environs. We discover Slovenia's architecture, from medieval complexes to Josef Pleçnik, met new colleagues, and discussed EAHN's potential for future tours and conferences.
