The European Architectural History Network is the first step in the creation of a European Society for Architectural History that will support research and education by providing a public forum for the dissemination of knowledge on the history of architecture in Europe and among scholars of European architecture.
The need for a network in the field of architectural history has long been felt among European scholars and those working on European architecture. The idea of creating such a network was discussed by a group of scholars at the Society of Architectural Historians 2005 meeting in Vancouver and the INHA/SAH International Conference in Paris. Subsequently, an informal committee was formed and it has initiated the European Architectural History Network (EAHN) by drafting a mission statement, creating a mailing list, the current website, and a quarterly newsletter. Correspondents from a growing number of countries contribute to the newsletter and website. With the goal of developing by-laws for establishing the European Architectural History Network as a permanent organization, the committee has also established a temporary association, “Association de préfiguration du réseau européen d’histoire de l’architecture” that organizes the discussion and vote of the members. The committee meets annually; these meetings are open to the general membership and are announced on the home page. Minutes of previous meetings can be found in Documentation.
The brochure of the EAHN describes its goals and activities.
The EAHN has been granted the status of affiliated society by both the Society of Architectural Historians and the College Art Association.
